Meet Dan Costello: Head of Emerging Tech Services at ONLC
Dan Costello, a longtime ONLC instructor, Microsoft Certified Trainer and courseware author, has joined the team full time as Head of Emerging Tech Services. Many people have taken one of his Power BI or Power Platform classes over the years, so he'll be a familiar name to them.
From Instructor to Emerging Tech Lead
Dan has taught with ONLC since 2006. He delivers Microsoft Official Curriculum and custom courses to public and private groups. Along the way, he also consulted for business clients, helping them apply AI and business intelligence tools to their day-to-day processes.
In his new role, Dan is building out ONLC's advisory and consulting services, a growing part of how ONLC supports organizations after training ends. He works directly with client teams to put AI, automation and data tools to work inside their own processes. Those tools range from Microsoft Copilot and Power Platform to Anthropic Claude, Tableau and Alteryx. That work spans mentoring individuals and small groups and solving specific problems alongside client teams.
A Top 100 Microsoft Certified Trainer
In 2025, Microsoft named Dan one of the top 100 Microsoft Certified Trainers in the world. He holds 26 active Microsoft certifications and 24 historical ones. They include Azure AI Engineer Associate, Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate and Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate.
His work spans three areas:
- AI and machine learning: Microsoft Copilot, AI Builder, Microsoft Foundry, GitHub Copilot and Anthropic Claude
- Analytics and business intelligence: Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, SQL Server, data warehousing, Tableau and Alteryx
- Low-code and pro-code development: Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio, Azure, C# and Python
Published Courseware
Dan wrote Introduction to DAX for Power BI, now in its second edition. Training providers in the US, Canada and Europe use it. He also wrote and presented Microsoft's official video course for the MS-100 Microsoft 365 Identity and Services exam, published by Pearson.
